It has been a while since I have written a poem. I began writing in verse at the age of seventeen – a long time ago. I was in love with life but feared its fragility. I looked up at the sky and saw God. At the time I naively thought that God taught us about himself through the intermediary of church or temple. Despite this, I realised that everyone’s relationship to God is unique – including mine. I began to write poetry to express this uniqueness. Over the years I have come to realise that church and temple are great places to have a particular sort of encounter with God. But not the only place. God is in the world, in the moment.
I hope you enjoy the poem.
God Rolls God rolls in the middle in between the mountains of yesterday and tomorrow at the heart of the moment. God rolls as science scribbles in dust and mud, as poets sit in circles weaving songs into baskets of knowledge, as we breathe in stones and bones at the edge of inwardness, of hollowed outness not knowing how to let go, or how to roll. Life is love and open source - gifted. Adoration is superfluous and anchors God to our fixedness and death - God rolls and we must find a way to roll with God into the middle of everything, into our hollowed outness, into love.
